Hey, I changed my vox theme for the second time. Last time I changed was 2 or 3 years ago, I think.

What's your most memorable scene from a movie?
Submitted by danadee

Probably the same as like 1/4 of the planet. "If you don't get on that plane you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But you will, and for the rest of your life."

What misconception about the place you live bothers you the most?

That it is 100 degrees in Phoenix year-round. We have seasons just like everyone else. Winters are just mild.

The post below reminded me of this song. It's about Katrina, but it's titled Houston and mentions Galveston. Kind of ironic.

Galveston

I went to Galveston this month while visiting my sister and her family in Houston. It was wrecked. There was one row of about a dozen homes on Galveston Bay. Only one home was still there. There was just a little debris left of the other houses. All across the island there was debris piled along the side of the road. It was surreal to think this trash used to be people's homes. Things like this should teach us to appreciate what we have.

16 Random facts, thoughts, and goals.
I'm tagging Susan and Connie.

1) I plan to get a welding certification next year.
2) I'd like to take and pass the CPA exam.
3) I'm still supposed to finish my IFR certification in the not too distant future.
4) I didn't try a cigarette until I was 19. Now I smoke cigars.
5) I have an ultra-green lifestyle until I jump in my 1953 model airplane on the weekend that burns 10 gallons of fuel per hour. And it's 100 octane leaded fuel.
6) I wanted to be a writer when I was a kid.
7) I used to be a cat person. Now I am a dog person.
8) I never voted until the 2004 election.
9) I'm about 50-50, Green/Democrat, in this election even though I've been convincing everyone to vote for Obama. I considered voting for McCain until his campaign turned well, racist, in my opinion.
10) I housebroke a rabbit.
11) I've eaten: deer, wild boar, rattlesnake, chicken feet, pigs' feet, cow tongue, alligator, rabbit, eel, sea urchin, bulls' testicles, and frog.
12) My dream jobs are: 17th century pirate or Jedi Knight.
13) I'm a Trekkie.
14) Hindu Indians annoy me. When I get too irritated I try to remember that Buddha was an Indian Hindu.
15) My early voter application let me choose English, Spanish, or Hohokam as my ballot language. I was tempted to choose Hohokam.
16) I love Popeye's Fried Chicken.

QotD: Cast Away

If you were stranded on an island, what five books would you bring?
submitted by
CJP

1) Manual of Zen Buddhism, edited by D.T. Suzuki. I'd take it because you can read each page ten times and still not understand it. It keeps your mind busy.

2) The Unabridged Jack London. I know it's cheating to have a collection of books, but it's hard to get tired of London.

3) The Hitchhiker's Trilogy by Douglas Adams. I could read it fifty times.

4) The Unabridged Shakespeare. I meant to take the class, but never did. He's interesting. Maybe you've heard of him.

Can't think of another. There's other books I've really liked, but nothing I'd want to read more than once. There's only a couple of books I've read more than once. I'm just not the type. So many good books, it's silly to read the same one twice.
